The response to our Postcards for Ruby fundraiser has been absolutely amazing, with over 200 individual postcards received.
We've had beautiful postcards created in Ruby's memory from a number of children's illustrators - Nick Sharratt (You Choose), Debi Glioria (No Matter What), Nicola Bayley (The Mousehole Cat), Jane Ray (Can You Catch a Mermaid) and Satoshi Kitamuri (Me and My Cat).
We've had amazing creations from some of the artists who Ruby really admired and who she featured in her GCSE art sketchbooks: Peter Crawley (stitched illustrations), Julie Mirabelle (hand cut maps), Jeff Nishinaka (paper sculpture) and Jan Brewerton (linoprint).
We've received donations from many artists local to us - including master potter Edmund de Waal (a ceramic tile), leather artist Carl Fox (created from wood and leather), metal artist Gordon Robertson (a pewter postcard) and textile artist Catherine Marie Longtin (quilted postcards). Plus paintings by Sally Muir, Ishbel Mysercough, Michele Wilshaw, John Stark, Sophy Bristol - and so many more. We've received postcards from all over the world including Canada, Japan, New York, LA, the Netherlands, France and Italy.
We've also had postcards from some of Ruby's favourite celebrities, who've written Ruby's motto on a postcards and signed it - including Dames Emma Thompson and Joanna Lumley, Sir Mark Rylance and the creator and cast of Line of Duty.
We'll be displaying all the postcards in an exhibition at our house (42 Woodland Hill, SE19) on Sunday 2 October from midday - 5pm. All welcome! There's no charge (though donations to Ruby's fund are always welcome 😊) - but of course we hope you'll be inspired to buy a raffle ticket or two! We'll be serving tea and cake and will also have some of our Live Kindly Live Loudly merchandise for sale. We'd love to see you!
Postcards will go on sale on what would have been Ruby's 21st birthday - 7th October, at 7am. Every ticket will win a postcard, with the draw taking place on 18th October (or sooner if the tickets sell out before that date). We'll share the link here a day or two before tickets go on sale.
We'd like to say the most enormous thank you to all the wonderful artists who've donated some of their work; they have been incredibly generous and we are hugely grateful.
